Responsible Hiking in Stelvio National Park

The Value of Walking

For AKU, walking is about far more than reaching a destination. It is about connecting with a place, learning to read the landscape, understanding its history and moving through it with respect.

This vision of trekking places discovery, care for the natural environment and the value of a slower pace at its heart. It is an approach to the mountains that has always guided AKU—not only through footwear designed for people who choose to explore the outdoors consciously, but also through projects that foster culture, knowledge and responsibility.

This shared vision is the foundation of the partnership between AKU and Bormio Tourism, built around a common goal: enhancing Stelvio National Park through trekking routes, outdoor experiences and projects dedicated to hiking.

Projects Across the Territory

From the Stelvio Historical Trek to the new Alta Via dell’Ortles, the partnership between AKU and Bormio Tourism comes to life along some of the most significant routes in Stelvio National Park.

Each trail has its own history, landscape and level of accessibility, yet they all share the same idea of the mountains: walking as a way to better understand the territory, interpret its traces and develop a deeper awareness of the natural environments that define it.

AKU will support Bormio Tourism in developing the area’s leading trekking initiatives, helping to make Stelvio National Park’s network of trails even richer and more accessible.

The partnership includes the Stelvio Historical Trek, the Punta Segnale rock art trail, the new Alta Via dell’Ortles and a wide range of family-oriented experiences—initiatives designed to tell the story of the mountains through walking and to encourage more people to experience them with greater awareness.

A Vision for the Future

For AKU, this partnership is part of a broader commitment to protecting the natural environments we explore. Ongoing efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its manufacturing processes, the use of renewable energy sources and initiatives dedicated to mountain conservation all find a new and tangible expression in this collaboration.

The project will also involve the network of alpine huts and the development of initiatives that encourage a deeper understanding, protection and more conscious interpretation of the mountain environment.

Particular attention will be given to the glaciers of the Ortles-Cevedale massif—fragile yet iconic landscapes that today stand among the clearest signs of the changes affecting the Alps.

A Partnership Built Over Time

In 2025, Bormio hosted AKU’s Spring/Summer 2026 International Sales Meeting, welcoming representatives from more than 20 countries. Through guided hikes, discussions and encounters with Alpine culture, the team and the brand’s international partners had the opportunity to experience the region first-hand and share a common vision of the mountains: authentic, accessible and approached with respect.

That experience now marks the beginning of a new chapter. Together, AKU and Bormio Tourism are working to promote trekking as a way to discover, understand and protect Stelvio National Park.

Because every trail can become much more than a route—it can become a way of understanding the landscape, recognising its value and helping to preserve it.
