The Alta Via Dolomiti Bellunesi starts in Forno di Zoldo, the northernmost point of the park, and crosses the Prampèr-Mezzodì and Schiara mountain groups. It skirts the wild and almost impenetrable Monti del Sole, climbs to the Piani Eterni, offers views of the imposing walls of Sass de Mura, and then, with a long traverse along the Vette Feltrine, leads to Feltre, the southern gateway to the park.
The route follows CAI trails, except for some variants that use thematic trails and valley-floor roads. Mountain experience and good navigation skills are necessary to tackle some of the less-travelled sections, where markings are deliberately kept to a minimum in order to reduce the impact on the integral nature reserves.
108 km, 7 stages, 6 variants through the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park: 32,000 hectares, home to more than 1,400 species of flowers and plants.
Yet this is a journey to be measured first and foremost in terms of the landscapes and the people you encounter along the way.
