AKU Ambassador in Patagonia with CAI

Ambassador AKU in Patagonia con il CAI

The CAI Eagle Team project has reached its final stages. The 6 athletes who will leave together with Matteo Della Bordella have been selected, with destination Patagonia, El Chalten, a strategic point for mountaineers from all over the world.

AKU is proud to be part of the expedition together with the two ambassadors Alessandra Prato and Camilla Reggio who thus demonstrate that they are among the strongest and most prepared mountaineers at a national level.

One of the objectives of this project, among the first of its kind in the panorama of modern mountaineering, is in fact to be able to help young mountaineers (the project is aimed at people aged 18 to 28) in their technical, cultural and character training.

The program, lasting about two years, consisted of an initial selection and then six weeks of intensive training in various Alpine locations, including the Dolomites, Mont Blanc and the Bernese Oberland. During these sessions, participants were able to form a group, get to know each other and practice rock, ice and mixed climbing, as well as classic mountaineering together with internationally renowned tutors. It was therefore also a transfer of information between different generations, a moment in which 'old' and 'young' had the opportunity to dialogue on a common level: the mountain and its implications. In addition to the technical aspects, the project offers cultural and historical insights, with a focus on risk management and the link between mountaineering and communication.

"The Cai Eagle Team project, which we created together with Matteo Della Bordella and the Italian Academic Alpine Club, perfectly embodies our founding values, such as the transmission of technical mountaineering skills, respect for the environment and the spirit of adventure, carrying them towards the future", says the General President of the Italian Alpine Club Antonio Montani.
