A NEW PATH TOGETHER

every choice I make, from equipment to clothing, must reflect the values of environmental protection and responsibility

Photo and Text by Jonathan Giovannini

I have been working as a nature photographer for several years, an activity that requires
dedication, passion and a continuous comparison with often extreme environments and paths
complexes. Spending so much time in nature has taught me to respect it
deeply and to understand how complex it is. For this reason, every choice that
I do, from equipment to clothing, must reflect the values of protection and
environmental sustainability.
It is with this awareness that my collaboration with AKU was born, a company
who share my vision and my commitment to nature. I have long relied on their
products for exploring extraordinary environments in search of wild animals, from deserts
Africans to American forests, up to the high mountain peaks in the Himalayas. AKU
represents a fundamental element to best face each expedition,
ensuring maximum comfort and safety in any condition.

Discovering unique scenarios

Travelling is an integral part of my job. Each destination offers unique scenarios and
unrepeatable photographic opportunities. From the immensity of the African savannahs, where
documenting wildlife in its natural habitat, at the carved American canyons
from the wind and the water, every place is a challenge that requires technical preparation and
physical resistance.
The right footwear can make the difference between a successful expedition and a
unexpected difficulty. Through my work I have tested AKU on different terrains, from
hot sand to the humid forest floors, always finding them at the same height as the
more extreme conditions.

Jonathan Giovannini

"Being a wildlife photographer for me means entering into symbiosis with the natural world, respecting it and representing it in its purest state."

The importance of lightness and resistance

Each expedition requires very specific choices regarding equipment. The weight and
equipment resistance are key factors: my backpack must contain everything
the necessary without becoming an obstacle in long journeys. The kit, minimum
consisting of camera, telephoto lens, water bottle and clothing
The spare part weighs around 12-15kg, a weight that can increase drastically in winter or in the
case where it is necessary to carry out a high altitude observation with tarpaulins, a tripod and
extra material.
AKU shoes are a fundamental support, allowing me to move agilely
through rugged landscapes, crossing rivers, climbing rocks and walking along
kilometers, maintaining the comfort of the post at the end of the route unchanged. The
technology and the quality of the materials used are essential for those who, like me, go
entire days in often unpredictable natural environments.

The importance of sharing

In addition to documenting the beauty of our planet, my work also has a purpose
educational. Through my shots, travel stories and workshops, I try to
to convey my passion and raise awareness among people about the need to preserve
these extraordinary places.
Sharing my work with a passionate community is one of the most enjoyable parts
rewarding part of this job, and knowing that I can inspire others to explore the world
with respect and awareness is what motivates me every day.
