THE RIGHT THING - AKU AND SPORTSYSTEM SUSTAINABILITY NETWORK

Ecological transition

Ecological transition, green deal, responsible action... sustainability. It's a topic of much discussion, much debated, sometimes too much, and not always with full knowledge of the facts. A concrete commitment for some, a marketing and communications asset for all. Both within and outside the outdoor market, a habitat where brands pioneering this spirit coexist with those who, looking around, have realized that it's best to start working towards a future in which operating in this direction will no longer be an option, but a genuine obligation. Moving from words to action, working concretely and on solid foundations to evolve the way we design and produce, limiting environmental impact but without claiming to be sustainable or zero-impact. Doing it alone? Difficult, perhaps not impossible for some, but highly problematic for everyone, if the goal is to truly impact reality and bring about a change of direction that transforms, without completely overturning, a production system that needs to be rethought for greater compatibility with its host environment.
Sportsystem Foundation, an organization that brings together companies from the historic footwear district of Asolo and Montebelluna, has taken up the challenge by creating the Sportsystem Sustainability Network, a permanent working group with operational functions, made up of some of the most representative brands in the outdoor footwear industry, united by the common goal of doing the right thing together.
AKU is proud to be part of it, having promoted this group vision from the very beginning, which overcomes the rivalries imposed by market competition by providing the best resources and skills to achieve a result that will benefit everyone.

5 leading companies in the Sportsystem

The Sportsystem industry is undergoing a challenging and delicate transition toward a sustainable economy. Europe's stringent demands for climate neutrality by 2050, combined with growing consumer attention to product sustainability, are presenting our companies with entirely new challenges, requiring coordination and collaboration to better address them. In this context, an initiative marking a momentous shift has been launched: the establishment of a collaboration network for environmental sustainability projects in the technical and sports footwear sector by five leading sports system companies. The network includes five implementing partners (Alpinestars, AKU, La Sportiva, Scarpa, Tecnica) and the Sportsystem Foundation as coordinating partner.

The Network's objectives:

  • The establishment of a permanent working group to share information and best practices on issues related to product environmental sustainability;
  • The development of joint projects related to environmental sustainability issues in line with the priorities of the European agenda (Green Deal);
  • The definition of shared standards, approaches, methodologies and organizational solutions.
